New York Undercover Gets A Reboot With ABC! Possible 2020 Return

Does anyone remember Fox's All-Black Thursday night lineup in the mid-90s? The programming, meant to cater to Black and Latino viewers at a time when many networks weren't doing so, consisted of MartinLiving Single, and a cop drama called New York Undercover. Well, word has come that a New York Undercover reboot might be on the horizon.

It looks officially official: New York Undercover is coming back. A deal has been struck for a pilot production with ABC. If you’ll remember back in the ’90s, New York Undercover was a FOX television show, following Martin and Living Single on Thursday nights in that murderer’s row of black television watch-hood. The show followed the lives and detective work of NYPD Detectives J.C. Williams (Malik Yoba) and Eddie Torres (Michael DeLorenzo) as they handled the streets of the non-existent 4th precinct with swagger, style and grace.

In an exclusive from Deadline, the word is floating around that ABC is looking to reboot the successful police drama. The reboot of the show is set to be written by Hand of God creator Ben Watkins.

For those unfamiliar, New York Undercover ran for four seasons from 1994 to 1998. The show starred Malik Yoba and Michael DeLorenzo as Det. J.C. Williams and Det. Eddie Torres, two police officers in New York City's Fourth Precinct. Created by Law & Order scribe Dick Wolf, the show was the first cop drama on American television to have two people of color in leading roles. The show was also notable for its R&B/hip-hop musical guests and performances at the end of each episode. Word of a New York Undercover comes on the heels that a reboot of both Martin and Living Single are in the works.

Hell Yeah bring the show back. Malik would be a great lead along with the two female co stars. Who would be a new co star to help fill the role of Det. Torres? I always wanted to see some of our classic black shows come back stronger & better..
